Pirates of the Death’s Fangs: option parts per il Melusine

Ho iniziato il lavoro di dettaglio sul Melusine (anche se non è ancora completamente assemblato). In questa fase voglio identificare delle zone da dettagliare, con delle placche aggiuntive. Per prendere forma e dimensione delle placche ho applicato dei pezzi di nastro Tesa Precision Mask sui quali ho ridisegnato il profilo d’interesse a mano.

Questi pezzi sono poi stati applicati su un foglio di carta ed è stata fatta una scansione. L’immagine risultante è stata usata come base per ritracciare il disegno vettoriale, usando come programma di disegno Inkscape.

Il tracciato è a due livelli, con il disegno in nero a rappresentare i tagli effettuati sul plasticad e il disegno in rosso per la parte in vinile. Dopo aver tagliato il plasticard ho applicato il vinile e effettuato il secondo taglio, per ottenere di fatto un effetto a due livelli.

Ora c’è da vedere come prosegue l’applicazione o se sarà necessaria una ulteriore ingegnerizzazione del procedimento.

Kobo Glo, how to create a custom sleep cover.

The idea behind this project is quite simple, i need a way to protect the screen of my Kobo Glo eReader with a cover, that doesn’t bulk to much this sleek device.

Also a good plus could be the possibility to use the auto sleep/on feature of the Kobo. A quick search on google (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=198477) shows that the features is based on a magnet put near the lower right corner of the kobo. After a pair of tests, the idea seems to works… putting a circular magnet near the corner, the Kobo goes to sleep, removing it, the Kobo wakes up.

Using my Silhouette Cameo and Inkscape i cut out the inner and outer layer of the cover, from white PVC and an inner soft layer, made of soft rubber foam.

The graphic on the outside is a my idea, like the button that covers the magnet on the cover inside.

Zaku II RG Custom “Koi” WIP 2 : Scratchbuilt shield

To help the process of scratchbuilding the Zaku II RG “Koi” shield i’m testing a new method, drawing it in 3d using the Opensource modeler “Blender” (www.blender.org).

The idea is to “prototype” the shield in full 3D, and then to “unwrap” the object and print the unwrapped image on a adhesive paper sheet.

To unwrap the object, i’ve used the “Export Paper Model From Blender” plugin (https://github.com/addam/Export-Paper-Model-from-Blender/), that generates an SVG file with the object totally unwrapped.

The SVG file was then edited with Inkscape, to correct the size and printed on adhesive paper.

The paper was then applyed to a sheet of plasticard, cut out and glued togheter…

If the piece to create is simple enough to be designed with Blender, the complete process is quite easy, and the result in, on my advice, really interesting!

Zaku II RG Custom “Koi” WIP 1

This is my first attempt to customize a Bandai Gunpla, basing this work on the RG 1/144 Zaku II kit.

First impression is that the Real Grade series is not the best option for a custom work, cause the kit is ultra detailed by himself and his made by a lot of small pieces, so there’s no so much space for cut&paste.

But it’s just an experiment, so go on…

First i’ve used a basic vector drawing to evaluate how to proceed (the original file is downloadable here: Zaku II vector file):

MS-06 Zaku II – Downloadable SVG vector drawing

Aggiornamenti sulla cabina per aerografia

Rispetto alle ultime foto ho fatto diversi aggiornamenti alla cabina per aerografia (http://custom.ultramini.net/2010/11/27/nuova-cabina-per-laerografo/).

In particolare ho separato gli interruttori di luci e aspirazione, per poter lasciare accesa la ventola anche a luci spente (finito di dipingere) e ho aggiunto due “tendine” di fronte alle luci.

Per le tendine ho usato dei coperchi per teglie, che essendo foderati in alluminio sono assolutamente impermeabili alla luce e riflettenti, aumentando ulteriormente l’illuminazione all’interno.

Ho fatto tagliare il vetro della finestra, in modo da poter collegare il tubo all’esterno.

Gli spazi sono decisamente più comodi, ora riesco a pitturare anche per parecchio tempo senza problemi di illuminazione, disposizione del pezzo e vapori.

I colori sono tutti a portata di mano e lo stesso vale per l’acqua, i diluenti e i detergenti. Sto pensando se e come utilizzare le pareti per dei porta utensili o per i pannelli di carta per le prove colore. Vediamo…
